Why are stripes having such a moment right now? As one of the biggest style trends of 2026, they're splashed across beachside umbrellas, draped along al fresco dining tables, and making their way down runways in fresh, unexpected forms. The stripe has become the unofficial motif of Summer 2026, embodying everything we're craving: carefree joy, individuality, and a sense of nostalgia for a beautifully curated, well-lived summer.

And yet, stripes remain remarkably timeless. They bring to mind windswept days along the coast, glamorous afternoons on the French Riviera, and beloved wardrobe staples that only get better with age. This season's interpretation feels especially relevant, thanks to saturated color pairings, playful proportions, and a renewed appetite for statement dressing. Refined minimalism may still have its place, but the art of bold, maximalist dressing is firmly back on the mood board.

Bold and instantly transportive, cabana stripes are a nod to vintage beach clubs (hello, St. Tropez), striped poolside chaises, and hidden seaside escapes. Wherever they appear, they bring a sense of holiday ease.

In contrast, pinstripes—thin stripes spaced farther apart—have long been a staple of menswear, offering a more tailored aesthetic and a quiet sophistication that never feels overdone.

A touch bolder than the pinstripe, Bengal stripes feature a two-tone pattern with stripes measuring approximately one-quarter inch in width. Striking the perfect balance between classic tailoring and modern style, they trace their origins to India and Bangladesh along historic trade routes.

French Stripes
French Stripes

Known as the Breton stripe—or Marinière in France—this enduring icon remains synonymous with luxury fashion and effortless French style. Originally worn as part of French naval uniforms, traditional Breton shirts featured 21 stripes across the body and 14 stripes on each sleeve. By the early 20th century, the pattern had entered mainstream fashion after Coco Chanel incorporated it into her collections. Today, the French Stripe remains a foundational piece in any timeless wardrobe. You'll find it featured throughout some of our most beloved styles, including the Patrick Popover Henley and Monterey Sweater.

How We're Styling Stripes

This season, we're embracing a more-is-more approach. Try layering stripes of different scales, mixing colors and textures for a look that feels delightfully unexpected rather than overly coordinated.

For something timeless, pair our iconic French Stripe with your favorite California Vintage Denim or Italian Dream™ Denim and a chic pair of flats. There's a reason this formula never goes out of style.

And when summer reaches its peak, nothing feels quite as effortless as a striped button-up worn with breezy linen shorts and sun-faded denim. Easy, unfussy, and endlessly chic.
