FRANK & EILEEN: Tell us about your community in Dallas. What do you love most about living in Texas?

LIZZIE: Dallas is home to some really amazing and innovative entrepreneurial young women, from whom we’ve gleaned a ton of inspiration. Texas is also unique in that it embraces color and celebrations of every size in a way that is quintessentially Texas, so Sarah and I are right at home. Also, the broader local community has embraced, supported and encouraged us at every turn, so we are deeply beholden to this community and feel really at home here, despite not being Dallas natives! The Dallas gang loves a good Friday night football game, making us right at home as West Texas girls.

F&E: Miron Crosby was inspired by your experience of growing up on your family’s cattle ranch, and named for both your great-grandfather, Marion Otis Means, and a pasture in your family’s West Texas ranch. How has your Texas upbringing – and family – influenced your creativity and the ways you’ve reimagined the traditional cowboy boot?

SARAH: As ranch kids, we were raised in boots, and when we both moved to NYC after school, we wanted cowboy boots that were more fashion-forward and contemporary—that we felt would better reflect our styles and aesthetics. We struggled to find this style of boot ready-made on the market, so we ordered custom boots from our uncle. This sparked the idea for our brand, and we’ve always gleaned massive inspiration from the flora and fauna of West Texas in our designs. You’ll see this reflected in our signature lazy stars and floral elements that sprinkle throughout the collection. Also, we have a deeply ingrained and—dare we say—genetic love for fashion thanks to our ridiculously chic grandmother, Grammie, and our elegant mother, Jackie, who continue to heavily inform our personal styles.

F&E: Boots from Miron Crosby are incredibly versatile and can truly be dressed up or down for any occasion. What are some of your favorite ways to wear your boots?

LIZZIE: I like nothing more than a frilly mini skirt and some metallic boots to run out for margaritas with my husband, and they’re also perfect to throw on for school pickup when I anticipate we’ll be hitting the playground afterwards. So chic and comfortable!

SARAH: I live in a midi-length hem, be it a slip dress or long skirt, and always feel put-together when I pull on a great pair of our tall boots and run out the door. I’m also living in a season of all of my friend’s weddings, and I love to dress up my boots with a cocktail dress or for a black-tie event. I find they’re always a great conversation piece!

F&E: Beyond boots for adults, you also have the most amazing collection for kids with colorful prints and playful inlays. How do you approach design differently for children and where do you draw inspiration for these pieces?

LIZZIE: I have five children, and it’s really fun to think about what would excite them, so our kid’s collection is super influenced by their personalities. June, for example, inspired the lady bug (her namesake, the June Bug boot) and Fields is all-in on the snake appliquéd on the Hunter boot. It’s been a ton of fun to incorporate my children’s creativity in coloring boots too! June actually colored the newest Nell iteration in mixed metallics, and it was an incredibly special moment to collaborate with her. Incorporating my children into my business life is such a privilege.

F&E: How would you describe your personal style and what are some of the most-treasured pieces in your wardrobe? Does your work influence your clothing choices?

LIZZIE: I love color and have never met a ruffle I don’t like. Anything with a statement shoulder makes my heart sing, and anything that can be paired with a boho belt or a piece of funky jewelry. My style is also heavily influenced by the reality that I’m a mom of five, so I focus on easy separates that I can mix and match when I inevitably have to change my shirt due to a cereal spill! I go nowhere without my white Frank and Eileen Shirley button-up. Most recently I paired it with a pareo at the Breakers for our family Easter trip, and it’s at the top of my suitcase when we pack for weekends at the ranch.

SARAH: I’m admittedly a bit quirky, so I love a utilitarian, classic piece that I can pair back to something with a wild print, a hint of fringe or an accessory with an animal on it! I love an obscure animal moment - ha! I also travel a ton and try to stick to a palette of black, white, or navy when I do for easy mixing and matching. As such, I’m obsessed with my Mackenzie Frank and Eileen button-up - I love the long length with denim or a cool trouser for an easy put-together look. I’ll wear it open over a silk slip dress with boots.

F&E: What’s coming up next for Miron Crosby (that you can share!) and what are you most excited about?

SARAH: We’ve spent the last year with our heads down, focused on building a strong foundation for our business, which has meant growing our amazing team and focusing on opening our third store in Houston, behind our Dallas and Aspen studio. Design-wise, we’re obsessed with pushing the boundaries of traditional cowboy boot heights and are playing around with super-tall and super-short boots to round out the collection.
